WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Frank A. Liporace, MD, spoke about mega prostheses in the treatment of periprosthetic fractures around a total knee arthroplasty or a revision knee arthroplasty.

“These are great tools and great mechanisms are becoming more common to be used by the traumatologist, as well as the arthroplasty surgeon, to get an ultimate goal of immediate weight-bearing and mobilization for these high-risk patients, which have the same mortality as hip fracture patients. We have to do these not liberally, but with a lot of respect for the overall situation and the potential complication risk,” he said.
