WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Anthony A. Romeo, MD, and Xavier A. Duralde, MD, spoke about outpatient total shoulder arthroplasty and steps orthopedic surgeons can take to optimize the operation in ASCs.

“The table has been set for this for a long time. The number of total shoulder replacements has been going up. Our colleagues who do total hips and total knees have been doing those as outpatient for years. If you look at the risk profiles of those operations, total shoulder is a safer operation than total hip and total knees. I think the one thing that has accelerated the whole process is COVID,” Duralde said.
