VIDEO: Patient satisfaction equal for telehealth, office visits after knee arthroscopy

SAN DIEGO — In this video from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Kirk A. Campbell, MD, FAAOS, discussed patient satisfaction with care using telehealth vs. in-person office-based visits for follow-up care after arthroscopic meniscus surgery.
In the randomized controlled trial, researchers from the division of sports medicine at NYU Langone found patient satisfaction with overall care for patients who had telehealth follow-up visits was equivalent to that found among patients who had in-person office-based follow-up visits. Overall, 85.3% of patients in the office-visit group preferred the type of follow-up visits they received vs. 79% patients who had telehealth visits (P = .470). There were no statistically significant differences in complication events.
“The bottom line is telemedicine is something I believe is here to stay,” he said.
