Zimmer Biomet appoints Ivan Tornos as chief operating officer

Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. announced it has appointed Ivan Tornos as chief operating officer, a newly created position in the company, according to a company press release.

The release noted Tornos joined Zimmer Biomet in November 2018 as group president of orthopedics and became group president of global business and the Americas division of the company in 2019.

In his new role, Tornos will be responsible for overseeing all global businesses at Zimmer Biomet, as well as leading the global operations, clinical and medical education, and global research and development and new product development functions, according to the release. Tornos will also have oversight of the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region division.

Tornos served as worldwide president of the global urology, medical and critical care division of Becton, Dickinson and Company prior to joining Zimmer Biomet, according to the release. The release noted he served as president of Europe, Middle East and Africa regions with C.R. Bard, as well as vice president and general manager of the Americas pharmaceutical and medical/imaging segments of Covidien International. Tornos also served as international vice president of business development and strategy with Baxter International Inc. and has spent more than a decade in leadership assignments with Johnson & Johnson.
