Medtronic expands artificial intelligence spine surgery assets with Medicrea acquisition
Medtronic plc has announced the completion of its tender offer for Medicrea International, a French-based company that aided the transformation of spine surgery through artificial intelligence , according to a press release.
The voluntary all-cash tender offer, which was completed at the price of 7 euro per Medicrea share, will further Medtronic’s strategic expansion into AI spine surgery, according to the release.
Medtronic will acquire Medicrea’s portfolio of FDA-cleared and CE-marked spine surgery implant technologies for use in adult deformity, pediatric deformity and degenerative diseases.
“By offering clinicians one of the most innovative, ground-breaking technologies, Medtronic is redefining spine procedures to help reduce variability and improve outcomes, with the ultimate goal of restoring long-term quality of life for more patients,” Jacob Paul, president of the cranial and spinal technologies operating unit at Medtronic, said in the release. “Medtronic now becomes the first company to be able to offer an integrated solution including artificial intelligence-driven surgical planning, personalized spinal implants and robotic assisted surgical delivery, which puts the power of these smart technologies directly into the hands of clinicians to make patient care more tailored and personalized,” Paul added.
