EFORT recently shared its first promotional video for the Virtual EFORT Congress — VEC — provided by Prof. Philippe Neyret, VEC 2020 Congress President.

To encourage a large participation from around the world, from the youngest to the most experienced surgeons, the registration fees will be limited to 100 euro.

This being said, we have no doubt that the EFORT commitment to continuously promote high quality science and research in orthopaedics and traumatology (O&T), and to offer progressive tools for training and education, is now a reality. EFORT is proud to announce the release of the advanced scientific program for its upcoming first VEC, which will take place from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October 2020.

Prof. Philippe Neyret

This exciting new educational program will comprise abstract-based presentations with more than 1,200 abstracts transferred from the former in-person 2020 event that was planned, including 400 free paper oral pre-recorded presentations and 800 poster presentations with audio narrations.

To engage more with national member societies in regard to the development of parts of the scientific content and to create a research culture within the O&T community, EFORT implemented the Best National Paper initiative, which focuses on the presentation of the best abstracts from each national member society. A total of 22 e-posters of the best national papers will be made available during the VEC, the best scored of which will also be presented orally during the highlighted session to be held Friday 30 October, just before the closure of the VEC. During this session, attendees will be invited to vote live to choose the winner of the Best National Paper Award.

Further, more than 60 invited sessions have been confirmed giving EFORT the privilege to welcome recognized experts in all fields to share online their expertise and latest findings. In line with the encompassing nature of EFORT, the detailed program delivers multifaceted scientific content complemented by the interactivity of the final live discussion periods during which speakers and moderators will challenge respective views on related hot topics, but also answer relevant questions from the audience through an interactive feature.

To make the user’s journey as seamless as possible, those interested are encouraged to visit the 2020 VEC advanced scientific program available on the EFORT website, which was launched on 15 September. All details can be browsed, including specific schedules of live webcasts, presentation titles and names of speakers of any scientific session that is planned. Using keywords, dates or specific topic filters, it is easy to find, export and share information about the presentations within a given field of expertise and find preferred faculty members.

This search tool will help build a customized timetable throughout the VEC and is the most accurate source of information for the 2020 VEC scientific program at all times, as it reflects all updates.

Here is a glimpse of some of the sessions that are expected to earn a “highlight” tag in the schedules of many VEC participants.

For those who seek something from astute to basics, the following set of sessions is recommended: Robotic-Assisted Knee Arthroplasty/Late Night Surgery by the EFORT Trauma Group/Knee Back to Basics by FORTE.

Within the policies & regulations corner, do not miss: The New Implant - Consequences of Medical Device Regulation (MDR) followed by Medical Device Regulation (MDR): How to Handle New Problems with Old Implants.

For something addressing a nice mix of audiences, from clinicians to regulators to industry, watch: How to Use Registry Data for Medical Device Evaluation by the International Society of Arthroplasty Registries.

Also, because the topic of gender is only one aspect of diversity, do not miss the session entitled: Women in Orthopaedic and Traumatology Surgery, which will be moderated by Deborah M. Eastwood, MB, ChB, FRCS, and Li Felländer-Tsai, MD.

All of the above is available in the day-by-day overview by session distribution, topic stream, webcast channel and day/time slot.

Day 1: Wednesday 28 October | Day 2: Thursday 29 October | Day 3: Friday 30 October

Finally, and importantly, this first VEC was granted 14 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. Online features will make it possible for attendees to record the time they spend watching the scientific content while they attend the “live” educational sessions. However, only live participation during the 3 congress days enables participants to collect CME.*

EFORT looks forward to having anyone who is interested take part in this new educational journey. Find out what awaits in O&T education from 28 to 30 October 2020 and take steps now to plan to attend by visiting the EFORT Congress website and registering at the special 100 euro fee, which provides access to all the online features: 75 hours of live streaming, 6 months of on-demand replays and access to the virtual exhibition.
