DuPage Medical Group announced the appointment of Anthony A. Romeo, MD, as executive vice president of the DuPage Medical Group.
He will lead the launch of the new DuPage Medical Group (DMG) Musculoskeletal Institute, a program that will bring together DMG providers from orthopedics, spine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical therapy and occupational therapy, chiropractic care, as well as primary care sports medicine, to create a patient-focused approach to musculoskeletal care.
“As a preeminent clinical leader in orthopedic care and a relentless educator, Dr. Romeo’s extensive knowledge and eye toward innovation will be crucial to growing DMG’s Musculoskeletal Institute, allowing us to further create a nationally recognized institute for orthopedic care that is focused on positive, patient-centered outcomes,” Paul F. Merrick, MD, chair of the DMG physician organization, said in a press release.
DMG is the largest independent, multi-specialty physician group in Illinois with more than 750 primary care and specialty care physicians in more than 100 suburban Chicago locations. The DMG Musculoskeletal Institute will focus on the value-based care model by leveraging medical informatics, evidence-based clinical protocols and technology to optimize care delivery and lower health care costs.
“I am excited to work closely with Dr. Romeo to not only deliver a new standard of care to Chicago-area residents, but also to patients nationwide who are in need of musculoskeletal care. We will be a destination orthopedics institute,” Steve Nelson, CEO of DMG, said in the release.
Romeo is Chief Medical Editor of Orthopedics Today and a past president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. He previously served as chief of orthopedics for the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in New York and a professor in the department of orthopedics at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health. He also spent 25 years practicing in Chicago, where he served as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls.
“I am thrilled to join the team at DuPage Medical Group for many reasons, but mainly because we share the same patient-focused values,” Romeo told Healio Orthopedics. “Joining such a dynamic and driven team will allow me to serve my beloved city of Chicago, while pushing forward progress in value-based care. I am excited to get started and see what we can accomplish together.”
