For the 11th straight year, Hospital for Special Surgery has been named the top hospital in the United States for orthopedic care, according to the U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals 2020-2021” survey.

With a specialty score of 100/100, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) topped the annual Best Hospitals for Orthopedics rankings, which included 1,683 orthopedic hospitals nationwide.

Scores were determined from data analysis of patient outcomes, patient survival, volume of high-risk patients, patient experience, staffing and technology, according to the release.

“To be recognized for the 11th straight year is a tribute to the extraordinary skill, dedication and compassion of almost 6,000 individuals who provide or support care at HSS,” Louis A. Shapiro, HSS president and CEO, said in a company press release. “It is also a great service to consumers who are trying to make better health care choices based on quality and reliability,” he added.

Mayo Clinic Rochester, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and Rush University Medical Center rounded out the top five Best Hospitals for Orthopedics.

U.S. News & World Report also acknowledged this year’s ‘Hospital Heroes,’ more than 65 health care workers who faced the COVID-19 pandemic head on.

“The pandemic has altered, perhaps permanently, how patients get care and from whom they get it. Amid the disruption, we are steadfastly committed to providing the public with authoritative data for comparing hospital quality,” Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News, said in the release. “No hospital’s clinical team came through this unprecedented health crisis unscathed. Our Hospital Heroes series is a tribute to recognizing individuals at urban and rural hospitals in communities across the country who have gone above and beyond during this unparalleled time in history.”
