Cleveland Clinic names new chair of Orthopedic & Rheumatologic Institute

Cleveland Clinic announced Thomas E. Mroz, MD, as the new chair of its Orthopedic & Rheumatologic Institute. He will begin in the position Jan. 1, 2020.
According to a press release, Mroz is the director of the Center for Spine Health and the Spine Research Lab, as well as a board member of the North American Spine Society and chair of its Continuing Medical Education Committee. He joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2004 as a staff physician.
As an author of more than 400 research articles and abstracts, Mroz also works as deputy editor of the Global Spine Journal and The Spine Journal. He has an active role in the education of medical students, residents and fellows as a faculty member at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
“I am honored to have the tremendous privilege to lead a renowned group of physicians and caregivers,” Mroz said in the release. “I’m looking forward to working with this talented team to develop and adopt new technologies and capabilities that I believe will help define rheumatologic and orthopedic care nationally.”
Brendan M. Patterson, MD, who served as interim chair prior to Mroz’s appointment, will continue his role as chair of the department of orthopedic surgery.
