Conformis receives FDA clearance for next-generation hip system
Conformis Inc. announced it received FDA clearance for its next-generation Conformis Hip System, according to a press release.
The system will be showcased at the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons Annual Meeting in Dallas. According to the release, the system uses advanced imaging and design software to deliver a patient-specific preoperative plan for surgery with iJig instruments and patient-matched implants. The iJigs work with anatomic landmarks to accurately place the femoral stem and acetabular cup. The company’s reaper system offers single-use, patient-matched solutions to accurately place the acetabular cup to the proper controlled depth.
“Our new Conformis Hip System is compatible with multiple surgical approaches and is designed to provide the surgeon an efficient and accurate experience in the execution of the operative plan,” Mark Augusti, CEO of Conformis, said in the release. “We believe our system will allow surgeons to improve efficiency in the OR, and importantly — for the anterior approach — potentially eliminate the use of fluoroscopy.”
