LAS VEGAS — At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Darwin Chen, MD, discussed the use of  antibiotic-loaded bone cement in primary total knee arthroplasty. He said that although antibiotic-loaded cement significantly reduced infection rates in patients who underwent TKA, it also increased renal failure. Chen said it should be considered for high-risk patients but not used in patients with kidney injury.
