The Hospital for Special Surgery announced Bryan T. Kelly, MD, is to succeed Todd J. Albert, MD, as surgeon-in-chief and medical director.

According to a press release, the transition will occur in June, which is the end of Albert’s term. Albert will continue his spine practice and serve as the fourth surgeon-in-chief emeritus at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).

Kelly has served as chief of the HSS Sports and Shoulder Service for the past 5 years. He spearheaded the formation of the HSS Sports Medicine Institute and is the author of more than 190 scientific publications, chapters, review articles and books and co-investigator for the NIH Research Project Grant.

"This evolution is made possible by the depth of leadership talent and collaboration cultivated at HSS over many years," Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO at HSS, said in the release. "I look forward to partnering closely with Dr. Kelly to fulfill HSS’ responsibility to lead, and privilege to serve."
