According to recently published results, patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome had impaired trunk postural control, which had clinical implications for rehabilitation.
Researchers performed a cross-sectional study of 21 women diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome and 21 healthy women. Patients were asked to complete a 10-point VAS questionnaire to determine pain. The Persian version of the Kujala questionnaire was used to determine functional level. Investigators asked patients to maintain trunk postural balance on an unstable sitting device. The center of pressure indices of the trunk postural control was compared between the women with patellofemoral pain syndrome and the healthy women.
Results showed patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome had significantly increased center of pressure indices compared with healthy controls. Investigators noted the effect sizes of the indices were more than 0.8. – by Monica Jaramillo
