Thomas K. Fehring, MD, a hip and knee surgeon with OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center, was awarded a grant from The Foundation for Arthroplasty Research and Education at the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Annual Meeting.

According to a press release, he was awarded the grant for his research titled, How to Improve the Results of Irrigation and Debridement for Prosthetic Joint Infection through the use of Intraosseous Antibiotics. With The Foundation for Arthroplasty Research and Education (FARE) grant, Fehring will continue his research to improve utilization of irrigation and debridement in infected total knee arthroplasties with antibiotics injected directly into the bone. The next step in Fehring’s research is a prospective randomized study in two groups of 100 participants.
