WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — At Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Roy W. Sanders, MD, spoke about the benefits of using suprapatellar nailing for the treatment of tibial fractures.

He said that if the procedure is done carefully and correctly, there is no damage even 10 years later.

“You don’t damage the menisci. The starting point is identical to the starting point with a hyperflexed knee. We think suprapatellar nailing, or at least semi-extended nailing, of the tibia is here to stay. This is the new way to fix these, and I think this is going to be standard in another 5 to 10 years,” he said.
