WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — At Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Frank A. Liporace, MD, spoke about issues with proximal humeral fractures.

“Issues with the proximal humeral fracture, I think we all know pretty well. It is not getting stable fixation. It is about getting adequate exposure and getting long-lasting stability where we can start early motion and hopefully, yield a good result,” he said.

He said that not every fracture requires fixation. However, when fixation is required, he said it is important to get rid of subdeltoid adhesions and subacromial adhesions, make the space confluent and get the multiple sutures within the aspects of the rotator cuff to not only help with reduction, but also reduce tuberosity fragments to each other.
