The final consensus documents that resulted from the International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection, which was held July 25-27, 2018, in Philadelphia, are now available at the meeting’s website, which is ICMPhilly.com, and via the ICMPhilly app, according to Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS, of Philadelphia, who co-chaired the meeting with Thorsten Gehrke, MD, of Hamburg, Germany.
“[We] evaluated just about every important issue we have related to orthopedic infections,” Parvizi said. He noted the app “houses the algorithm for diagnosis of [periprosthetic joint infection] PJI and also a risk calculator as well as highlights on publications related to orthopedic infections.”
Several hundred musculoskeletal and infection professionals from 98 countries joined with Jefferson Health and Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at the 2-day International Consensus Meeting on Musculoskeletal Infection to convey their judgment on issues of prosthetic joint infection that challenge the orthopedic community and to develop the consensus document, which can be used to improve the care of patients affected by musculoskeletal infection.
Parvizi said the consensus documents on hip and knee arthroplasty and general questions have been published in the Journal of Arthroplasty and are available for review and download. Other subspecialties will also be published in journals which include Foot and Ankle International, Clinical Spine Surgery, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Journal of Orthopedic Research, and possibly Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
The meeting’s outcomes are also expected to be recorded in a book that contains 1,400 pages of the document and will be published in about 17 languages, Parvizi noted. Among the languages are Chinese, Farsi, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian. – by Susan M. Rapp
