Zimmer Biomet, Apple collaborate on health app related to joint replacement

Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. and Apple announced a collaboration on a new mobile health app called Zimmer Biomet mymobility, which is designed to promote new levels of connection between patients undergoing hip or knee replacement and their surgical care teams.

According to a press release, the app will use the Apple Watch and iPhone to provide support and guidance to patients as they prepare for and recover from knee and hip replacement. To optimize care, surgeons will be delivered continuous patient data. The app allows surgeons to send education and therapy reminders directly to patients’ Apple Watches and enables surgeons to monitor patient activity levels.
Bryan Hanson, president and CEO of Zimmer Biomet, said in the release. “At Zimmer Biomet, we are committed to improving care decisions through digital health and we are thrilled to launch one of the largest evidence-gathering clinical studies in orthopedic history.”

Zimmer Biomet also plans to begin a clinical study on the app to determine its impact on patient outcomes and costs for joint replacement. The study may enroll up to 10,000 patients in the United States.
