Cleveland Clinic appoints new chair of orthopedic surgery

Brendan M. Patterson, MD, has been named chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic.
According to a press release, Patterson will lead 325 employees. He succeeds Michael A. Mont, MD.
Patterson is the chair of Cleveland Clinic’s pain management committee and is the chief financial officer of the board of directors of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. His areas of expertise include limb salvage, complex fractures and adult reconstruction.
Before he joined Cleveland Clinic, Patterson served as chair of orthopedic surgery at MetroHealth. He helped establish the Center for Orthopaedic Trauma Advancement, which develops funding for the education of orthopedic trauma fellows. He also helped develop the Northern Ohio Trauma System and was its chair for 3 years.
“We are excited to have an experienced national leader of orthopedic surgery to lead the department of orthopedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic,” Joseph P. Iannotti, MD, PhD, chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Orthopaedic & Rheumatologic Institute, said in the release.
