For each edition of our EFORT Congress, the construction of an up-to-date scientific program based on high-quality scientific findings is key to accomplish our mission of ensuring the best orthopaedic and traumatology education across Europe. The construction of the first program draft starts 18 months before the meeting and is based on a complex session to collect proposals that involves all our member National Societies, numerous specialty collaborating societies, as well as each EFORT standing committee.
From the beginning of November 2018, we have made available an online platform to submit proposals for sessions to be included in the 2020 scientific program. Submission through this system will now be widely promoted through different communication channels to allow all members of the European orthopaedic and traumatology (O&T) community to directly contribute to the pool of topics to be potentially presented during the meeting.
On January 2019, at the end of the proposal submission, the 24 members of the EFORT Science Committee will review each topic suggested and rank them according to their interest, their relevance to the existing O&T educational needs and their link to the main congress theme. This collaborative work specifically assembles 40% of the final content, the so-called “EFORT Invited Sessions,” which follow one of the six EFORT pre-defined formats focusing on the following different learning objectives: Complex Case Discussion; Debate Forum; Evidence-Based Medicine Session; Instructional Lecture; Interactive Expert Exchange; and Symposium.
Well-known European experts with an international reputation on specific topics are appointed to organize each session integrated in the first program draft. These leading, outstanding surgeons are then invited to frame the detailed content of their sessions by defining all the titles of the presentations and suggesting the best speakers to fully cover the assigned topics. Importantly, the faculty panel in charge of the session’s composition is always constituted of members from different nationalities in order to take advantage of the heterogeneous medical background of the speakers and foster input around diverse treatment approaches and daily practice considerations.
As recently announced, the 21st EFORT Congress will be held in Vienna from 10 to 12 June 2020 and the online proposal submission will remain open until Monday, 17 December 2018; 23:59 CET.
The best chance to promote specific topics in which you are interested for the next EFORT Congress is as easy as creating an account on our online platform and sending us your suggestion of scientific topics to be covered.
Seize the opportunity to bring your ideas to the core of the EFORT educational mission!
