Lars A. Lidgren, MD, PhD, FRCS(Hon), AAOS(Hon), a senior professor in the department of orthopedics and clinical sciences at Lund University in Sweden and Orthopaedics Today Europe Editorial Board Member, and other prominent surgeons were awarded an honorary fellowship from the American College of Surgeons at its Clinical Congress in Boston.

The honorary fellowships were bestowed on behalf of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) by Barbara Lee Bass, MD, FACS, FRCS(Hon), during the convocation at the Clinical Congress.

“I am grateful to the ACS for being an honorary member. They may have recognized that I served for 25 years as departmental head in Lund, Sweden, a world-renowned orthopaedic center,” Lidgren told Orthopaedics Today Europe. “But, more importantly, probably, is I was leading the Bone and Joint Decade for 10 years, a unique on-going cooperation between professional and patient organizations raising the awareness of emerging bone and joint conditions resulting from the ‘age quake’ and the epidemic of road injuries.”
