In this Patellofemoral Update, Marc Tompkins, MD, and Juan Pablo Martinez, MD, MSc, discussed that descriptions and measurements of trochlear dysplasia on slice imaging are usually based on the axial plane. Although this view is helpful in understanding the relative position of the patella and trochlea, they said the shape of the trochlea in the sagittal plane on MRI or lateral radiographs may also provide important information about patellofemoral instability in patients with trochlear dysplasia.
