NYU Langone Health appoints director of strategy and innovation, associate chief of hand surgery

NYU Langone Health announced Thomas J. Graham, MD, joined its department of orthopedic surgery as director of strategy and innovation. He also serves as associate chief of the division of hand surgery.

Graham joined NYU Langone on Sept. 1. According to a press release, Graham will see patients at the Hand Center at NYU Langone. In his new role, he will translate strategy and innovation into tangible advancements in techniques, technologies and delivery of orthopedic care. He is an expert in surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow, complicated reconstruction after trauma, complex elbow disorders and congenital hand aliments.

“We are incredibly fortunate to recruit Dr. Graham to NYU Langone and to bring his renowned skills as a hand surgeon, innovator and physician leader to our department,” Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, chair of the department of orthopedic surgery, said in the release. “Having a surgeon and visionary like of Dr. Graham join our already outstanding hand surgery faculty further catapults our top-ranked program to an even higher level of excellence.”

Graham has served as the hand surgery consultant, team physician or medical director for teams in the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, Professional Golf Association (PGA) and Ladies PGA Tours. Graham has authored more than 100 publications, book chapters and books, such as Innovation the Cleveland Clinic Way. He reportedly holds more than 50 patents for medical devices.
