According to a company press release, Romeo will also be actively seeing patients in Rothman Institute’s Marlton, N.J. location.

“Most private practice orthopedic groups have various aspects of what the Rothman Institute has, but I do not know of another organization from top to bottom that is able to deliver value-based health care at the level that the Rothman Institute is capable of,” Romeo told Healio.com/Orthopedics. “That opportunity to be part of their leadership and to put together the further development of the Rothman Institute in New York City and throughout the state of New York was an incredible opportunity that I am excited to follow through with.”

Romeo comes to Rothman Institute from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush where he focused on shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine. Previously, he was a professor of orthopedics and program director of the shoulder and elbow fellowship, as well as section head of shoulder and elbow surgery, at Rush University Medical Center. The release noted Romeo was also co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.

Romeo is the author of more 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and 35 orthopedic textbook chapters, according to the release, and is a member of several professional orthopedic societies. Currently, Romeo serves as president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and is Chief Medical Editor of Orthopedics Today.

“The addition of Dr. Romeo is a key pillar to our practice growth in New York,” Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Rothman Institute, Richard H. Rothman professor and chairman of the department of orthopedics and professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals, said in the release. “His international reputation as a clinician, his dedication to academic excellence and his unparalleled leadership will ensure Rothman Institute keeps our same values in our expansion markets of which our practice was built upon.”
