EFORT

This year, the Mark Paterson Travelling Fellowship will be held in the United Kingdom from 17 to 24 September culminating in the British Orthopaedic Association Congress, which will be held in Birmingham from 25 to 28 September 2018. The call for applications is now open to orthopaedic surgeons based on the mainland (continental) Europe only (excluding the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland).

The Mark Paterson Travelling Fellowship (supported by The Bone & Joint Journal and EFORT) is initiated and funded by The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery and is supported by the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) and the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA).

Every year, three young orthopaedic surgeons are selected to spend 2 weeks visiting orthopaedic centers of excellence in either the United Kingdom or mainland Europe, culminating in attendance at either the EFORT or the BOA Congress. At each center, the fellows will learn about the specialty work of that unit and participate in clinical conferences and presentations.

For a senior trainee or a newly qualified consultant, it will provide an excellent opportunity to broaden clinical experience, make important professional contacts and gain experience in presenting his or her own work and opinions in an international setting.

Fellows must be younger than 40 years at the time of the beginning of fellowship. They may be consultants, post-certification surgeons or senior trainees. They are selected based on the submitted application, which must include the following:

  • personal letter of application;
  • curriculum vitae; and
  • recommendation letters from two orthopaedic surgeons issued within the last 12 months.

The evaluation committee will look for evidence of a strong academic and research background, and for surgeons who will be good ambassadors for their centers and countries.

The call for applications is currently open and interested candidates may submit their full application via www.grantfolio.com/efort. The deadline for applications is Friday 8 June 2018 23:59 CET. The applicants will be notified of the selection results by email on Tuesday 24 July 2018. Do not miss this prestigious fellowship opportunity. Apply now.
