KOLOA, Hawaii – At Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2018, Christopher S. Ahmad, MD, spoke about SLAP repairs, particularly in throwers. He said that SLAP repairs can be an adaptive feature and not necessarily a pathologic problem.

“We know up to 50% of elite baseball players have asymptomatic SLAP repairs, so it can occur without symptoms,” he said.

Additionally, he said SLAP repair surgery may not be as effective as we want.

“No other type of surgery in my practice has changed more than the indication and the technique than SLAP repair,” he said.
