Hospital for Special Surgery appoints new chief of orthopedic trauma service

Hospital for Special Surgery announced it has appointed William M. Ricci, MD, as the new chief of the combined Hospital for Special Surgery/New York-Presbyterian orthopedic trauma service. Ricci, who is an Orthopedics Today Editorial Board Member, is the president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and has served on the board of directors of the American Orthopaedic Association. He has been ranked as a top orthopedic trauma surgeon in North America by his peers.
“Orthopedic trauma is the core of orthopedic surgery,” Todd J. Albert, MD, surgeon-in-chief and medical director at Hospital for Special Surgery, said in the release. “Dr. Ricci is a skilled surgeon whose depth and breadth of leadership experience will only enhance the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality patient care.”
According to the release, Ricci succeeds David L. Helfet, MD, as chief of the orthopedic trauma service. Ricci is known for his expertise in the treatment of complex fractures and complications that stem from these injuries. He was chief and fellowship director of the orthopedic trauma service and vice-chair of orthopedics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
