Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. announced the U.S. launch of its Vitality+ and Vital Spinal Fixation Systems at the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting.

According to a company press release, the Vitality+ Spinal Fixation System consists of Vitality+ Power for simple, controlled pedicle preparation and pedicle screw insertion; Vitality+ PSO for optimal pedicle subtraction osteotomy and vertebral column resection procedures; and Vitality+ Hooks with an extensive array of additional fixation options. Featuring a flexible drill and a blunted reamer, the Vitality+ Power is designed to flex off cortical bone to ensure precision during procedures. The release noted the Vitality+ PSO system provides an extensive array of intuitive instruments for complex osteotomy procedures, while Vitality+ Hooks offers an assortment of hooks with various throat depths designed for sublaminar, pedicle and transverse process fixation.

With its convenient, intuitive and optimized two-kit pedicle screw instrument configuration, the Vital Spinal Fixation System offers a compact solution for degenerative thoracolumbar procedures, according to the release. The system includes all instruments required for degenerative spine surgeries with an easy-to-follow color-coded tray layout. Including screws with a T27 hexalobe drive feature designed to provide 30% more strength than the T25 hexalobe, the release noted the Vital System’s dual-lead screws require fewer revolutions for insertion, which improves surgical efficacy by allowing insertion twice as fast as comparable single-lead screws without sacrificing pull-out strength.
