SpineGuard announced the U. S. commercial release of the DSG-enabled Z-Direct Pedicle Screw system from Zavation at the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting.
For open or minimally invasive approaches, the DSG-enabled Z-Direct Pedicle Screw System incorporates a single-use SpineGuard DSG pin embedded with a bipolar sensor to facilitate entry into the pedicle. A bipolar sensor continuously checks for the proximity of the cortical walls of the pedicle to alert the surgeon to the potential of a cortical breach, according to a company release. The release noted the design of the Z-Direct screw tip allows for redirection during insertion until the screw is past the pedicle isthmus.
“SpineGuard continues to enhance the value offered to surgeons and hospitals with the U.S. launch of the DSG-enabled Z-Direct Pedicle Screw System by Zavation,” Steve McAdoo, U.S. general manager of SpineGuard, said in the release. “This key achievement further demonstrates how our DSG technology can be integrated within pedicle screw instrumentation for additional clinical benefits and efficiencies.”
