K2M acquires cervical static corpectomy cage system from Cardinal Spine

K2M Group Holdings Inc. announced it has acquired the Palo Alto cervical static corpectomy cage system from Cardinal Spine, according to a company release.

The cervical vertebral body replacement device is reportedly the first and only static corpectomy cage to receive a cervical FDA 510(k) clearance. K2M has also acquired associated intellectual property and product inventory from Cardinal Spine.

The Palo Alto is to be used for replacement of diseased or damaged vertebral bodies or reconstruction to achieve decompression of the spinal cord and neural tissues in cervical degenerative disorders in skeletally mature patients. It is to be used as an adjunct to fusion, with autograft or allogenic bone graft comprised of cancellous and/or corticocancellous bone graft.

“We are excited to expand our complex cervical offerings by adding the first and only FDA-cleared static cervical vertebral body replacement device,” Eric Major, K2M chairman, president, and chief executive officer, said in the release. “We look forward to fully integrating this clinically supported technology into our differentiated product portfolio, which when complemented by our comprehensive Balance ACS platform, allows surgeons to address the full range of spinal pathologies, and ultimately, to facilitate total body balance in their patients.”

The Palo Alto was featured in a podium presentation by Frank P. Castro Jr., MD, at the North America Spine Society Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
