The Chinese University of Hong Kong appoints new vice-chancellor, president

The Chinese University of Hong Kong has appointed Rocky S. Tuan, PhD, as vice-chancellor and president, according to a press release from the University of Pittsburgh.

According to the release, Tuan’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on July 25, 2017. The appoints is effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Tuan has been a professor at the University of Pittsburgh since 2009 and is the Arthur J. Rooney Sr. Chair in sports medicine and is executive vice chairmen for orthopedic research in the department of orthopedic surgery. He is also the director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Engineering, a founding director of the Center for Military Medicine Research, associate director of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and is professor in the department of bioengineering.

At CUHK, Tuan has served as distinguished visiting professor and director of the Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. He has also been a member and chair of the biology and medicine panel of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council.
