SAN DIEGO —  Luke S. Oh, MD, discussed a study that compared the perceptions of adolescent athletes regarding results of a sports-related injury to their parents’ perceptions regarding their child’s mechanism for coping, such as anxiety, depression and psychological function. Oh said in most areas there was concordance between the athlete’s perception and parents’ perceptions, except for depression level and the effect of the diagnosis on the athlete’s reaction to his or her perception of rehabilitation and surgery potential.
