VIDEO: Circumferential convex growth arrest by posterior approach for double cervicothoracic curves
In this video from Open Operating Theatre, Ibrahim Obeid, MD, from Bordeaux University Hospital in France, discusses how to perform the anterior to posterior spinal growth arrest with pedicle screws for congenital scoliosis.
The surgery begins with the posterior approach at the convex side of each curve, with pedicle screws inserted unilaterally at the level of the hemivertebrae and adjacent vertebral bodies. Free-hand technique is performed in the thoracic area and navigated guidance is used in the cervical area. The right-side growth arrest is performed with pedicle screws placed from T6-T8, with the left-side growth arrest of the cervicothoracic performed with pedicle screws placed from C6 to Tl. Local bone graft is used to achieve posterior fusion.
This video is a teaching tool to help surgeons prepare for surgery or they can use it as refresher on the surgical technique and indications for this surgery.
