Accepted abstracts for 18th EFORT Annual Congress in Vienna

This year, the EFORT community has again demonstrated the exceptionally high standard of their scientific work in the orthopaedics and trauma fields.
Those who submitted abstracts had the opportunity to put forward free papers, posters and clinical cases which were all scored by our expert reviewers, to whom we are grateful for their excellent work and commitment. Their collaboration on this matter is of high importance for EFORT and allows us to continue our mission of delivering high-quality education across Europe.
In mid-January, the EFORT Head Office hosted the “Vienna allocation meeting,” which was an important step to assemble the scientific program for our 2017 Congress and set up the abstract-based sessions. This is the culmination of the work that goes into the review process, which ensures the best work in orthopaedic and trauma surgery within Europe is selected for on-site presentation at the congress.
During the allocation meeting, all reviewed abstracts were further screened by members of the EFORT Scientific Committee to check the accuracy and quality of each scoring and to allocate the best abstracts into Free Paper oral sessions under a common sub-topic. The best-scored case reports were selected for oral presentation in dedicated clinical sessions, as well, and in a similar manner the posters with higher scores were included in topic-based Poster Walk sessions.
A total of 1,967 abstracts have been accepted: 680 free papers, 1,176 posters and 111 clinical cases are now part of the scientific program of the Vienna congress within 70 Free Paper sessions, 17 Clinical Cases Sessions and 45 Poster Walks. All these abstract-based sessions aim to increase how much the participants interact and promote a lively exchange among all presenters.
High quality standards
During the review process, the EFORT Science Committee occasionally changed the type of presentation format for some of the accepted abstracts. The intent of this action was to maintain the high standards of quality of the scientific content while maximizing the chances for all good submissions to be presented in Vienna.
On Friday, 27 January 2017, all presenting authors and co-authors of submitted abstracts were notified by email about the acceptance/rejection status of their work, as well as about the final type of presentation for each abstract that has been accepted. The type of presentation stated in the acceptance notification will overrule the type of presentation the authors selected during the submission process and no further changes to that can be made.
The next step
The presenting author of an accepted abstract must undertake to attend the congress and present the work in the session and at the time designated by the Scientific Committee.
EFORT therefore requires all presenting authors to register by Monday, 27 February 2017 at the latest. Only registrations for the full congress from presenting authors will be accepted.
If the presenting author is unable to present his/her work at the congress, it is his/her responsibility to ensure one of the co-authors takes over that role.
The complete online scientific program will be available on the EFORT website starting Wednesday, 15 March 2017 to allow all participants to plan in detail their attendance at sessions and maximize their educational experience during the congress. Stay tuned.
