NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — At the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Annual Meeting, Michael D. McKee, MD, discussed an ongoing, multicenter, randomized controlled study where he and his colleagues compare operative vs. nonoperative treatment of flail chest injuries. The aim of the study is to determine how orthopedists can reduce the time spent in an ICU and in a ventilator for these patients. The study has enrolled 170 patients to date.
