City of Pittsburgh honors Freddie H. Fu, MD, with 'Dr. Freddie Fu Day'

The Council of the City of Pittsburgh declared Sept. 13 as “Dr. Freddie Fu Day” in the city of Pittsburgh in honor of Freddie H. Fu, MD, David Silver professor and chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Fu moved to Pittsburgh in 1977 to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine to complete his orthopedic residency training. During his career, Fu played an integral role in establishing the Sports and Preventive Medicine Institute, in designing and overseeing the construction of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Rooney Sports Complex and developing the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has devoted time and energy to several causes, including work force development and the Senior Olympic Games, and has earned international recognition for his research of best practices in ACL reconstruction after sports-related injuries. Fu was also the first resident of Pittsburgh to be inducted into the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Hall of Fame in 2016.
