At the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Annual Meeting, Stryker announced the launch of its SonicAnchor, a soft tissue solution that uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy and flow into cancellous bone for fixation.

According to a company press release, the technology can be used for suture or tissue fixation in foot, ankle, knee, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder open procedures. The technology reportedly lowers the chance of breakage during insertion and provides high pull-out strength and reliability compared with traditional anchor fixation.

“SonicAnchor is transforming the soft tissue experience, and we are excited Stryker is leading the way in providing this innovative solution to orthopedic surgeons,” Tom Popeck, vice president and general manager of Stryker’s foot and ankle business unit, said in the release. “Its SonicFusion technology is unlike any other on the market.”

According to release, SonicAnchor supports foot and ankle open procedures, such as Achilles tendon repair, lateral and medial stabilization, hallux valgus reconstruction, midfoot reconstruction, metatarsal ligament repair and digital tendon transfer.
