Andersson named chairman of board of directors for International Advocates for Spine Patients

International Advocates for Spine Patients has named Gunnar B.J. Andersson, MD, PhD, chairman of its board of directors, according to press release from the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.

Andersson has previously served as the vice-chair of International Advocates for Spine Patients (IASP). According to the release, he was president of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) for 2014 to 2015 and was co-president of the group for 2015 to 2016.

“I have dedicated my career to advancing spine care through research, education and clinical practice,” Andersson said in the release. “My patients and their success with surgical intervention have kept me going all these years and as a chairman of IASP, I intend to keep fighting for high-quality, widely accessible and cost-effective spine care for patients around the world.”

Andersson is a member of the Spine Surgery Today Editorial Board. In addition, he is deputy editor for Spine, editor in chief of Contemporary Spine Surgery and associate editor for Clinical Biomechanics, according to the release. Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Andersson is a member of 15 editorial boards. His research interests include disc generation, epidemiology and occupational biomechanics.
