Zimmer updates joint reconstruction portfolio for bone loss

Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. updated the OSS Orthopedic Salvage system, a set of joint reconstruction prostheses for treatment of patients with bone loss, according to a recent release.

The Orthopedic Salvage system is reportedly the only limb salvage system that uses the OsseoTi, porous metal technology that copies cancellous bone structure and provides biologic fixation with regrowth of tissue.

The new upgrades, according to the release, include modern implant designs for the femur and diaphysis, small diameter Splined stems and new implant components made with the OsseoTi porous metal technology. The new system reportedly also offers Universal Quick Connection, which improves speed and flexibility intraoperatively for difficult limb salvage procedures.

"We are excited to further enhance the clinical utility of our revolutionary Orthopedic Salvage System with refreshed and new implant designs, improved surgical instrumentation as well as the utilization of OsseoTi Porous Metal technology to provide bone and soft tissue fixation often needed in limb salvage procedures," Todd Davis, vice president and general manager of Zimmer Biomet's Knee business said in the release. "These upgrades reinforce Zimmer Biomet's commitment to partnering with surgeons by expanding and refining our product offering to improve the ease and efficiency of the surgical experience and improve procedure outcomes."
