Stem cell therapy is certainly a promising tool to enhance musculoskeletal regeneration in orthopaedics, but unless reproducible methodology, basically regarding cell expansion and delivery, is validated confirming safety and efficacy in specific orthopaedic indications, wide orthopaedic application will not be approved by the regulatory authorities in Europe. Multicentric clinical trials are being launched, both by private companies as well as hospitals and academic centers, but the field is still under development.
