NuVasive Inc announced the global launch of its Maximum Access Surgery Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion procedure.

According to a company press release, the procedure was initially released in a limited launch around the United States, but is now available for patients and surgeons in Australia, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Designed to eliminate the need to retract back muscles as wide laterally as a traditional Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF), the Maximum Access Surgery PLIF procedure requires a smaller incision, is intended to help reduce postoperative approach-related muscle pain and to enable a faster recovery for the patient.
