EFORT at the Austrian Society of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery National Congress

During the National Congress of the Austrian Society of Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery (ÖGO) in Krems an der Donau on 13 September 2013, ÖGO organized an EFORT Forum on Modern Trends in Arthroplasty.

The Forum was organized in honor of Prof. Karl Knahr, who received an ÖGO honorary membership during the event. After the Forum opening by ÖGO President, Prof. Stefan Nehrer, Krems, Prof. Hochreiter talked on Threaded versus press-fit cup: Old fashion versus future standard? Next, Prof. Windhager gave a lecture on Shortening of the femoral stem: Is there a need for it?

EFORT was represented in the Forum with Prof. Pierre Hoffmeyer, Immediate Past-President, who gave a lecture entitled Is the hype of the Inverse Shoulder Arthroplasty Justified?, and Ass. Prof. Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen, Secretary General, who talked on Rapid Recovery Programmes in Total Joint Replacement of the Lower Limb.

The Forum had further two distinguished lecturers, one by former EFORT President, Prof. Niki Böhler who talked on The UNI-Knee, A Sandwich Between Osteotomy and Total Knee Arthroplasty, and finally a most appreciated talk given by Prof. U. Dorn on Patient specific instruments in Total Knee Arthroplasty: Can They Replace Navigation? The session was an excellent review of different aspects in modern joint replacement, and was ended with recognition and applause for Prof. Karl Knahr.
