In the January/February editorial of Orthopedics, Editor-in-Chief, Robert D. D’Ambrosia, MD, announced several changes being made to the print and online editions of the publication.

Print issues will now be mailed to subscribers six times a year, according to D’Ambrosia. He also noted the use of a new rating system for the journal’s peer review process, designating the best of the best as “Blue Ribbon” papers, which will appear both in print and online. According to D’Ambrosia, a new print article titled Trending in Orthopedics “will feature a state-of-the-art new technique, a challenge, an advance or a trend” in orthopedics written by an author or authors who are at the center of this advance.

Papers that do not make it into the print edition will be posted in a new Online Advanced Release section at Healio.com/ortho.

“Readers will now be able to read papers as soon as they are processed, and authors will have their papers indexed by Medline/PubMed earlier than ever before,” D’Ambrosia wrote.

Also included online-only will be the Tips & Techniques papers, of which four will be published per issue in 2016. D’Ambrosia noted the possibility of video being included with these papers in the future.

“No matter how you read Orthopedics, I hope you enjoy the new formats, which continue to advance the specialty with each and every paper,” D’Ambrosia wrote. – by Casey Tingle
