WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — At Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2016, Leesa M. Galatz, MD, spoke about treatment options for patients after failed rotator cuff repair. She said reverse shoulder arthroplasty has provided new options, however, there are still patients in whom arthroplasty is contraindicated.

Galatz said patch reinforcement can be considered, but there is not much evidence to support its routine use. Another option is lower trapezius muscle transfer, which can offer distinct advantages, especially for patients with some overhead elevation where external rotation is their primary deficit.
