International Geriatric Fracture Society announces first programs to receive CORE certification

The International Geriatric Fracture Society recently announced its recognition of the first European geriatric fracture care programs to be certified by its CORE certification program.
The Geriatric Fracture Centre of Zurich Town Hospital and Universitätsspital Basel, Orthopädie/Traumatologie, achieved the highest certification level possible through the International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS) CORE certification program, having surpassed IGFS benchmarks of quality for geriatric fracture management, according to a press release.
“The success of the programs in Basel and Zurich illustrate those values we champion: collaboration, quality improvement and outcomes measurement are universal,” Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH, president of the IGFS and chairman of orthopaedic surgery at Geisinger Health System, said in the release. “It is a privilege to recognize their success by welcoming them as the latest premier-level certified programs and the first certified programs in Europe.”
The IGFS CORE certification program represents leaders in Asia, Europe, North America and South America and is the first major step toward recognizing other geriatric fracture care programs’ achievements in providing patients with the best possible care, according to the release.
