NASS announces its 2015 Recognition Award-winners

The North American Spine Society recently announced the winners of its 2015 Recognition Awards, as well as two new awards, the Past President Award and the Spine Advocacy Award.

Frank J. Eismont, MD, won the Leon Wiltse Award for excellence in leadership and/or clinical research in spine care. According to a press release, Harry Herkowitz, MD, nominated Eismont for the award, noting that Eismont has made extraordinary contributions to the field of spinal surgery in the past 30-plus years.

The David Selby Award, which recognized a North American Spine Society (NASS) member who has contributed to the art and science of spine care, was awarded to Donna M. Lahey, RNFA. She was nominated by Charles Mick, MD, Christopher Kauffman, MD, Edward Dohring, MD, Christopher Bono, MD, and Gregory Przybylski, MD, who noted Lahey had dedicated countless hours of her time to NASS.

David A. Wong, MD, MSc, FRCS, was awarded the Past President Award for his contributions to the society, and Jerry J. Wise, MD, was given the Spine Advocacy Award for his federal advocacy efforts on behalf of patients and members of NASS, according to the society. In addition, James C. Iatridis, PhD, received the Henry Farfan Award for his outstanding contributions in spine-related basic science research.
