The North American Spine Foundation recently announced the appointment of Janet R. Maurer, MD, MBA, to its board of directors, according to foundation representatives.

Maurer currently serves as associate chief medical officer and vice president of Quality, Compliance, and Appeals for NIA Magellan, part of Magellan Healthcare, a leader in special population management. She is also a clinical professor of medicine at University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix.

Maurer received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed her internal medicine residency at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, according to foundation release.
She completed an MBA and certification in Sigma Black Belt and changed careers to administrative medicine and teaching after 20 years of clinical practice.
