Patient-reported outcomes were not different for patients who underwent acetabular labral base repair and patients who underwent circumferential suture repair, in results of this study of a retrospective databased of prospectively collected data for patients who underwent hip arthroscopy.

Researchers collected and compared patient-reported outcomes (PROs) from 110 patients who underwent acetabular labral base repair and 110 patients who underwent circumferential suture repair. They used such measures as the VAS score, modified Harris Hip Score, Non-Arthritic Hip Score, Hip Outcome Score–Activities of Daily Living and Hip Outcome Score–Sports-Specific Subscale.

With respect to the lateral center-edge angle, acetabular inclination, anterior center-edge angle, alpha angle and joint space width, results showed similar radiographic data for both groups of patients. Researchers found statistically similar preoperative patient-reported outcome scores and both groups had significant improvements in all PROs. At latest follow-up, which was about 2.5 years mean in both groups, they found no statistical differences in postoperative PRO scores. In addition, the results showed there were similar rates of revision, as well as conversion to arthroplasty, in the two groups. – by Casey Tingle
