Globus Medical announces new lateral lumbar interbody fusion device
Globus Medical has announced the introduction of the RISE-L, a lateral lumbar interbody fusion device.
The vertically expanding lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) system allows the surgeon to minimize impaction and maximize indirect decompression while providing a large graft space for optimal fusion potential, according to a company press release. The device is intended for use in patients with degenerative disc disease at one or two contiguous levels of the lumbosacral spine (L2-S1).
Available in multiple sizes for parallel or lordotic profiles, the all-titanium implant is designed for up to 7 mm of continuous in situ expansion and to provide restorative disc height with proper anatomical fit. The device features a large, single graft chamber that can be filled with autogenous bone graft material after insertion and expansion, which allows for even contact with both vertebral endplates.
The device should be used in patients who are skeletally mature and have had at least 6 months of nonoperative treatment, according to the release.
