NuVasive recently announced the appointment of Gregory T. Lucier as CEO, effective immediately. Lucier has served as interim CEO since April 1, 2015.

Lucier’s appointment will be in addition to his role as NuVasive’s chairman of the board of directors, of which he has been a member since December 2013, according to a company press release.

“Since being appointed interim CEO, Greg has hit the ground running with an intense focus on driving NuVasive’s industry leadership,” Jack R. Blair, lead independent director of the NuVasive board, said in the release. “As the board considered the needs of the company, we determined that this focus, as well as Greg’s broad health care and leadership experience, made him the right person to lead NuVasive forward.”

Lucier’s last role was an 11-year stint as chairman and CEO of Life Technologies. Prior to that, he was also a corporate officer of General Electric and an executive at GE Medical Systems.

“NuVasive benefits from a dedicated and passionate team, a culture of innovation and strong surgeon customer relationships,” Lucier said in the release. “I am excited to work as CEO alongside NuVasive’s exceptional management team and more than 1,500 employee shareowners around the world to capitalize on the strength of the Company’s market share-taking strategies, integrated procedural offerings and significant growth potential.”
